Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital Ltd. (“CSMC”) is a leading non-bank lender with offices in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The company was founded in 2004 and currently has a committed loan book of $2 billion. Seventy- five percent of the loans are funded by institutional investors, and the remaining twenty-five percent of the loans are funded by private investors. CSMC specializes in commercial real estate loans, particularly land development loans, construction loans, and commercial mortgages, and employs 50+ people.

In 2019, CSMC launched a new fund, Cameron Stephens High Yield Mortgage Trust (“CSMT”), to keep up with the

growing demand for private capital in the commercial mortgage space. CSMT invests in a diverse range of asset

classes; however, its focus is on leveraging CSMC’s expertise in the residential development and construction sectors. CSMT currently has approximately $50 million in assets under management and plans to grow this to $100 million over the next 12 months. CSMC also has a Mortgage Investment Corporation (“CSMIC”) with an outstanding loan balance of approximately $50 million.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Within defined quality and service standards, underwrite loan transactions. This will consist of gathering required information to prepare comprehensive Term Sheets, and will include deal structuring, preparation of financial models, market analysis, client negotiations, financial and personal net worth statement analysis, and other day to day functions.
  • Upon approval of a Term Sheet (also known as Deal Preview or Deal Summary), prepare a Letter of Intent for acceptance by the client
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the sales origination group with a goal of providing feedback on their transactions within 24 hours of receipt
  • Update the deal tracker prior to the Tuesday morning 8:00 am call and attend the Tuesday morning 8:00 am call on time and prepared
  • Update deals in the Mid-Week update which is shared with the origination team
  • Complete Term Sheets with accuracy and in a timely manner for discussion at ICC and IC
  • Effectively manage your deal flow by prioritizing deals, setting expectations with originators and clients, asking for help when required, and delivering high quality Term Sheets / Letters of Intents with minimal errors
  • Be proactive with your transactions and take the lead in moving the transaction forward by following up with team members, originators, underwriters, funders, and clients. If you have capacity, please reach out to your manager for additional work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance with an educational focus on Real Estate or Land Development, or equivalent (required)
  • 1-2 years of related work experience in the real estate lending industry (required)
  • Superior communication skills (written and verbal) and acute attention to detail
  • Able to prepare clean and coherent Loan Summaries and other required documentation
  • Expertise in the use of Word, Excel, Office, and PowerPoint
  • Able to apply analytical and critical thinking skills while under pressure and prioritize workload
  • Keen sense of organization, planning, and prioritizing
  • Able to establish priorities, set deadlines, and manages time effectively
  • Must have a strong customer focus and helps develop and implement strategies according to evolving client needs
