Position Summary

Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital is looking for a Director in our Syndication group.

Who are we?

Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital Ltd. (“CSMC”) is a leading non-bank lender with offices in downtown Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The company was founded in 2004 and currently has a committed loan book of $3.2 billion. Eighty percent of the loans are funded by institutional investors, and the remaining twenty percent of the loans are funded by private investors. CSMC specializes in commercial real estate loans, particularly land development loans, construction loans, and commercial mortgages, and employs 50+ people.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional and private lending partners to thoroughly understand their risk appetite, needs and lending parameters.
  • Work closely with the origination team to review, understand & adjudicate transactions for all mortgage product types, including land loans, cost to complete construction loans, revolving construction loans, servicing loans, inventory loans, bridge loans and amortizing term loans.
  • Send term sheets, follow up, discuss, creatively problem solve and negotiate terms with lending partners in a timely manner.
  • Communicate comprehensive lending partner feedback on transactions to originators/underwriting & funding team in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Underwriting and Portfolio Management team to ensure Loan Summaries adhere to the lending partner’s requirements and manage changes to the transactions as required.
  • Coordinate and manage approval timelines with Origination team, Underwriting team and CSMC Lending Partners.
  • Provide expert guidance to origination team on deal structuring, lending partner appetite, and general feedback on the institutional and private lending landscape
  • Establish personal goals and action plans to support CSMC’s business objectives, and demonstrating an ongoing willingness to assume higher degrees of accountability and responsibility;
  • Keep abreast of changes within diverse industry sectors and proactively identify opportunities to add value to transactions by understanding Client/Borrower needs, Investor needs, and competitor offerings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance with an educational focus on Real Estate or Land Development, or equivalent (required).
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in the real estate lending industry (required).
  • Deep understanding of Finance and the Canadian Real Estate Market/Development Industry (required).
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication/presentation, interpersonal and relationship building skills (sales acumen).
  • Expertise in the use of Word, Excel, Office, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to apply analytical and critical thinking skills while under pressure and prioritize work load.
  • Keen sense of organization, planning, and prioritizing.
  • Able to establish priorities, set deadlines, and manages time effectively.
  • Must have a strong customer focus to develop and implement strategies according to evolving client needs.
  • MBA, CFA, CSC considered an asset.
  • Mortgage Agent License, Dealing Representative Registration considered an asset.
