Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital is looking for a Financial Accountant in our Finance Department.

Who are we?

Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital Ltd. (“CSMC”) is a leading non-bank lender with offices in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The company was founded in 2004 and currently has a committed loan book of $2 billion. Seventy-five percent of the loans are funded by institutional investors, and the remaining twenty-five percent of the loans are funded by private investors. CSMC specializes in commercial real estate loans, particularly land development loans, construction loans, and commercial mortgages, and employs 50+ people.

In 2019, CSMC launched a new fund, Cameron Stephens High Yield Mortgage Trust (“CSMT”), to keep up with the growing demand for private capital in the commercial mortgage space. CSMT invests in a diverse range of asset classes; however, its focus is on leveraging CSMC’s expertise in the residential development and construction sectors. CSMT currently has approximately $50 million in assets under management and plans to grow this to $100 million over the next 12 months. CSMC also has a Mortgage Investment Corporation (“CSMIC”) with an outstanding loan balance of approximately $50 million.

What you will do:

Accounting and Investor Reporting:

  • Manage all accounting and investor, financial, management and regulatory reporting
  • Accurate cash management and related transaction processing activities for the Cameron Stephens’ group of companies
  • Timely and accurate preparation of investment portfolio compliance reports
  • Prepare accurate and timely posting of all entries, including accruals and amortization in accordance with relevant accounting principles
  • Respond to investor inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Execute calls for funds and Investor remittances
  • Assist with developing the annual budget
  • Provide analysis and support to financial planning, budgeting and forecasting and manage cash flow forecasting
  • Assist with ongoing review of accounting policies and procedures
  • Review and approve Bank Reconciliations, income tax instalments and HST remittances
  • Assist in annual audit process and liaise with external auditors Human Resources / Payroll
  • Prepare timely and accurate payroll inputs including sales commissions, taxable benefits and group benefit deductions.
  • Assist Director, Finance with new employee set-up and terminations and other ongoing HR administration as requested (TD1 forms, ADP on-line access, Group Benefits application, RRSP’s, ROE’s, etc.)
  • Reconcile source deductions ensuring accuracy and completeness Other
  • Assist with the implementation of a new enterprise resource planning and accounting software
  • Assist the Director, Finance with annual testing of the Business Continuity Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Assist the Director, Finance with annual reviews of various contracts, including insurance, and third-party suppliers

What you will bring:

  • CPA; Business or Accounting Degree or equivalent experience (required)
  • Canadian Securities Course (preferred)
  • Progressive Financial Accounting experience with some supervisory or leadership experience
  • Mortgage industry or related experience (required)
  • Payroll and benefits administration experience (required)
  • Strong numerical aptitude and analytical skills with ability to research issues, develop conclusions, and make recommendations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal & written English) skills (required)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High numerical aptitude
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines
  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Advanced Excel
  • Experience with accounting software
  • High level of professionalism and integrity while maintaining the confidentiality of all organizational and client related matters
