Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital is looking for a Senior Funding Portfolio Manager in our Funding Department.

Who are we?

Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital Ltd. (“CSMC”) is a leading nonbank lender with offices in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The company was founded in 2004 and currently has a committed loan book of $2 billion. Seventyfive percent of the loans are funded by institutional investors, and the remaining twentyfive percent of the loans are funded by private investors. CSMC specializes in commercial real estate loans, particularly land development loans, construction loans, and commercial mortgages, and employs 50+ people.

In 2019, CSMC launched a new fund, Cameron Stephens High Yield Mortgage Trust (“CSMT”), to keep up with the growing demand for private capital in the commercial mortgage space. CSMT invests in a diverse range of asset classes; however, its focus is on leveraging CSMC’s expertise in the residential development and construction sectors. CSMT currently has approximately $50 million in assets under management and plans to grow this to $100 million over the next 12 months. CSMC also has a Mortgage Investment Corporation (“CSMIC”) with an outstanding loan balance of approximately $50 million.

What you will do:

  • Review Cost Consultant’s reports and present the findings to the VP Funding
  • Initiate Call for funds and Advance letter
  • Review Reminders, Loan Sales and Investor Portal Packages
  • Assist the VP on CAMLO duties (Audits Training, Process and Procedures)
  • Assigning new loan packages to the Funding Team
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Investors and Borrowers and other Third Party contacts
  • Ensure all minutes of approvals are completed and available for review
  • Verify amending letters, tax waivers and other parts of the commitment is properly documented, duly signed and acknowledged by the parties
  • Verify all loan advances and ensure all funding conditions have been met and the cost consultant’s reports have been reviewed
  • Send out Call for Funds to Investors once approved by VP Loan Servicing and Funding
  • Verify all AML requirements are met
  • Respond to Investor inquires
  • Assist the VP with internal and external audits
  • Prepare annual performance reviews and goals and tactics for the Funding Team
  • Motivate and provide continuous day-to-day support to the Funding Team
  • Monitor and measure goals and tactics
  • Train and develop Funding Team

What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years industry experience in a similar role with an emphasis on commercial and construction loans
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting, Commerce, or related field
  • Must be proficient with and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Proven organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
  • Previous legal or paralegal experience is a nice to have
